Duncan & Paulette: With Reservations

Another week, another batch of emails read and selected for the blog. Read on. They do get more interesting. Paulette and Ralph proceed with plans for their engagement party, while Paulette’s friend tries to keep a positive attitude about the whole thing.

This morning I put down our deposit at the Whitford. We’ll be in the breakfast room. Your mother actually picked a nice place.

July 19!!!  You’re not going to put this off a third time, are you? First your cricket match conflicted and then there was your cousin’s visit.

And remember this was your mom’s idea. She called me about it twice. My parents are pretty laid back and they could skip the whole thing. So you can’t have anything else going on. Love you! XXXX

At the church. Before the party. That’s the way it’s done at his mom’s church and she really wants to see him stick with that tradition.

‘fraid so. He’s the only child. Since his mother doesn’t have a daughter’s wedding to fuss over, it’s all falling on him. Tiresome, I know, but sometimes you have to put up with these things.

You’re going to be sick? This is THE MOST dragged out engagement known to man! You’ve been dating for two years. You ‘agreed to get married’ six months ago. There’s a dress, a church, a ring and a party afterward. And a cake. You might as well just get married on that day! The ONLY reason I’m going is because it’s for you. That’s how I know it’s not gonna be ghe–tto!

What a shock that would be if we eloped!  Hmmmm.
